Overview

What is ANS Monitoring?

Your autonomic nervous system (ANS) automatically controls heart rate, breathing, sweating, blood flow and digestion. It has two arms: the sympathetic (fight or flight) and the parasympathetic (rest and digest). Many chronic symptoms, including pain, anxiety, poor sleep and fatigue, are associated with a system stuck too far toward the stressed side.

ANS monitoring records several of these signals at once, such as heart rate and heart rate variability, skin conductance, hand temperature and breathing. We look at them at rest and in response to mild, controlled stressors, then during recovery. The results give us an objective picture of your stress physiology to guide your treatment plan and show measurable change over time.
